Subject: Thank you for taking action!

Message: Dear Students of Shorewood Hills Elementary,

I just wanted to drop you a note to thank you for the action you have taken to push the Lego Group to be more inclusive of people from all backgrounds. Your letters were very powerful in making the case that children of all genders, races, and ethnicities can do anything and that this should be reflected in the composition of all Lego sets.

My brother is the principal at Sherman Middle School in Madison and my sister-in-law is a teacher at Elvehjem Elementary School. They always share stories with me about how amazing the students are in Madison. I work for the College of Engineering at Cornell University and much of my work is dedicated to ensuring that students of all backgrounds are exposed to the many opportunities that are available through the pursuit of engineering. On a daily basis, I get to work with women and men who come from all over the world to work together to develop solutions to challenging problems that impact our greater society and the way we live.

I hope that you all maintain your enthusiasm for working together to tackle important challenges. I also hope that many of you will consider pursuing additional endeavors in engineering, and that perhaps when the day comes, you will consider doing so at Cornell University!

With kindest regards,

Sara Xayarath Hernández
